What saaS means in practice
Almost all business software now works this way. The advantages are genuine: nothing to install, updates arrive automatically, and it works from anywhere without a VPN. The cost model is the trade, because a subscription is permanent and it scales with headcount.
Two things are worth checking before committing a core process to one. Whether you can get your data out in a usable format if you leave, which is the difference between switching and starting again. And whether the price is per user, because a tool that is inexpensive at five staff can be a significant annual line at thirty, and that growth is rarely modelled at the point of purchase.
