Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO that builds trust you can point to

We provide off-page SEO for small businesses. That covers your Google Business Profile, a steady flow of genuine reviews, consistent listings in the directories that matter, and links from real sites connected to your business and your area. You get the outside signals that tell Google, and your customers, that other people vouch for you.

  • Google Business Profile managed
  • Genuine reviews and citations
  • No bought links

What off-page SEO is

Off-page SEO is everything that happens away from your own website that affects how it ranks. Search engines do not take a business at its word. They look for evidence elsewhere: other sites linking to you, customers reviewing you, directories listing you with the same details, and a Google Business Profile that is complete and active.

For a local business, the most valuable off-page work is rarely what people expect. It is not hundreds of links from sites nobody visits. It is a well-run Google Business Profile, reviews coming in every month, and a handful of links from local organisations, suppliers and associations that genuinely know you.

Off-page work sits alongside on-page fixes as part of our SEO services in Nottingham.

Included in off-page SEO work

  • Google Business Profile completed and kept current: categories, services, service area, photos and posts
  • A simple routine for asking happy customers for reviews, by text or email, at the right moment
  • Help replying to reviews, including the difficult ones, promptly and professionally
  • Business listings checked and corrected so your name, address and phone number match everywhere
  • Listings added in the directories that matter for your trade and area, not hundreds that do not
  • Links from real relationships: suppliers, trade bodies, local organisations and sponsorships
  • Content worth linking to, such as guides and local information, promoted to people who would use it
  • A check of your existing links for anything harmful, and a plan if there is a problem

Reviews and your Google Business Profile

For a business that serves a local area, the Google Business Profile and its reviews usually decide whether you appear in the map results at the top of the page. A complete profile, regular photos and posts, and a steady stream of recent reviews will often do more for local enquiries than any change to the website.

The difficult part is consistency. Most businesses get a burst of reviews when someone remembers to ask, then nothing for six months. We set up a simple way of asking every happy customer, so reviews keep arriving without anyone having to remember.

  • Review requests sent at the moment a job is finished
  • Every review answered, good or bad
  • Photos and posts added regularly
  • Services and areas kept accurate

Link schemes are the oldest shortcut in SEO and still widely sold: packages of links from networks of sites that exist only to sell them. Google is very good at spotting them. At best they do nothing, and at worst they earn a penalty that takes far longer to undo than they took to build.

The links that help a small business are the ones that would exist anyway if people knew you were there: your suppliers listing you as a stockist, your trade association listing you as a member, the local football club you sponsor, a local news story about a job you did. Building those is slower and less glamorous. It is also the kind of work that keeps paying off rather than needing to be undone later.

What counts as off-page SEO?

Anything outside your own website that affects how it ranks. For most small businesses that means the Google Business Profile, reviews, directory listings and links from other sites. Social media and mentions without a link play a smaller, indirect part.

How many links does my site need?

There is no number. A local business can rank well with a modest number of links from relevant, trusted local sites. One link from your trade association is worth more than a hundred from sites with no connection to you.

Is it safe to buy links?

No. Paid links intended to manipulate rankings go against Google’s guidelines and can lead to a site being demoted. We build links through real relationships and content instead, which is slower but does not put the site at risk.

Can you get rid of a bad review?

Only reviews that break Google’s rules, such as fake reviews or ones containing abuse, can be reported for removal, and Google decides. For genuine negative reviews, a calm, helpful reply usually does more good than removal would. We help with both.

Do directory listings still matter?

The important ones do, mainly because consistent business details across trusted directories help Google confirm who and where you are. Being listed in hundreds of low-quality directories does not help, so we focus on accuracy in the ones that count.
