Computer Repair

Business computer and laptop repair. We open machines rather than replacing them

Computer repair for business in Nottingham, done properly. Storage upgrades, SSD swaps, memory, thermal work, power and charging faults, screens, keyboards, and Windows problems that look terminal but usually are not. A working repair saves you a new machine and a day of downtime.

  • Component-level repair
  • On-site or workshop
  • Repair labour included on plans

Why most providers replace instead

Because it is quicker for them and more profitable. Diagnosing a machine takes an engineer’s time and a bench; quoting a new one takes five minutes and carries a margin. So the industry default has drifted to replacement, and a good proportion of business laptops get retired with nothing wrong that a £45 part would not fix.

We repair wherever repair makes financial sense, and repair labour is included on our business IT support plans. When a machine genuinely is beyond economic repair we say so plainly, with the numbers, rather than either flogging a dead laptop or quietly upselling you.

Repair labour is part of our business IT support.

What we repair

  • Failing and failed drives, with data recovery attempted before anything is wiped
  • SSD upgrades that make a five-year-old machine feel new for under a hundred pounds
  • Memory faults and upgrades
  • Screens, hinges, keyboards and trackpads
  • Power, charging and battery faults, including DC jacks
  • Thermal problems: the machine that throttles, screams or shuts down under load
  • Windows problems that look terminal: boot failures, profile corruption, update loops
  • Virus and malware removal with a proper check of what it touched
  • Data migration when a machine really does need replacing

On site or on the bench

Straightforward work happens at your desk, which avoids the machine disappearing for three days. Anything needing a bench, parts or a long diagnostic goes back to the workshop, and where downtime matters we can leave a loan machine with the user’s profile on it so the person keeps working.

Repairs on non-business machines belonging to staff are something we will look at case by case, though the plan covers business kit.

When replacement genuinely is the answer

There is a real line and we would rather name it than pretend it does not exist. A machine is beyond economic repair when the parts cost approaches half the price of a replacement, when the board itself has failed on a model with everything soldered to it, or when the machine is old enough that the repair buys you months rather than years.

Modern thin laptops narrow that window considerably. Memory soldered to the board, storage soldered to the board, and a battery glued into the chassis all shift the maths toward replacement earlier than they used to. On those models we will tell you the number and let you decide rather than quietly recommending the work.

Where a machine does need replacing, the job is not finished at the purchase. Data migrated properly, software reinstalled with the licences accounted for, the profile and the desktop shortcuts where the user expects them, and an image taken this time so the next failure is an afternoon rather than a fortnight. That last step costs an hour and is skipped almost everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

If the answer is not here, ask us. You will get a straight one, from someone who does the work.

Can you repair a computer, or do we have to buy a new one?

We repair wherever repair makes financial sense, including storage failures, screens, keyboards, power faults and thermal problems. Many providers skip straight to replacement because it is quicker for them and more profitable. We will tell you honestly when a machine is genuinely beyond economic repair.

How long does a repair take?

Desk-side work is usually the same visit. Anything needing parts depends on the part, and we will give you the realistic date rather than the hopeful one. Where downtime matters we can leave a loan machine with the user’s profile on it.

Is repair included in the support plan?

Repair labour is included on the Support and Complete plans. Parts are charged at cost plus a small handling margin, quoted before we order anything.

Can you recover data from a failed drive?

Often, yes, logical failures and failing-but-alive drives are routine. Physically dead drives need a clean-room specialist, which we will arrange and manage for you rather than sending you off to find one.

Do you repair Macs as well as Windows machines?

Yes for storage, memory where it is socketed, batteries, screens and software faults. Modern Macs solder a great deal to the board, which narrows what is economically repairable, and we will be straight with you about where that line falls on your specific model.

Is it worth upgrading an old laptop instead of replacing it?

Frequently. A mechanical hard drive swapped for an SSD, with the memory taken to 16GB, transforms a machine that feels unusable, for well under a fifth of the cost of replacing it. That is a genuinely good deal on a five-year-old business laptop and a poor one on an eight-year-old machine.
