WordPress hosting
Managed WordPress hosting, with the updates actually done
SetWeb provides managed WordPress hosting on UK servers for small business sites. That covers the server, the backups, SSL, monitoring and the core, theme and plugin updates that keep a WordPress site safe. You get a site that stays up and stays patched without anyone in the office logging in to press update.
- UK servers
- Daily backups, restores tested
- Updates applied for you
What is managed WordPress hosting?
Ordinary WordPress hosting gives you a server and a login, and leaves the rest to you. Managed WordPress hosting adds the work that keeps the site healthy: applying WordPress, theme and plugin updates, taking backups and proving they restore, watching for the site going down, and fixing it when it does.
That second half is where most small business WordPress sites fall over. The majority of compromised WordPress sites we are asked to look at were running a plugin with a known vulnerability that had a fix available for months. Nobody was responsible for applying it, so nobody did.
WordPress hosting is part of our wider managed UK hosting.
What our managed WordPress hosting includes
- Hosting on managed UK servers, with SSL certificates installed and renewed automatically
- Daily backups to separate storage, with restores tested on a schedule rather than assumed to work
- WordPress core, theme and plugin updates applied on a schedule and checked afterwards
- Uptime monitoring that alerts us, not you, so we are usually looking at a problem before you notice it
- Security hardening: limited admin accounts, sensible logins and plugins kept to the ones the site needs
- Caching and server settings tuned for WordPress rather than left at the defaults
- Domains, DNS and the email records that sit alongside the site, documented in one place
- Migration from your current host, done out of hours with the old site kept live until the new one is checked
Moving an existing WordPress site to us
Most of the WordPress sites we host were built by someone else. Before moving anything we audit what is there: how far behind the updates are, which plugins are installed and whether they are still maintained, and whether the backups work. You get that in writing, including anything we think is a risk.
The move itself happens out of hours. The old hosting stays live until the new copy has been checked page by page, forms tested and email confirmed, so nothing is down while the switch happens and the URLs your rankings depend on stay exactly as they were.
If the site needs rebuilding rather than moving, that is covered under WordPress web design.
Not sure what state your WordPress site is in?
Ask for a check before you decide anything. We look at the version, the plugins, the backups and the hosting it runs on, and tell you what needs doing and what it would cost to look after it properly.

What is the difference between managed and unmanaged WordPress hosting?
Unmanaged hosting gives you a server and leaves updates, backups and security to you. Managed WordPress hosting includes that work: updates applied on a schedule, backups taken and restore-tested, monitoring, and someone responsible for fixing the site when something goes wrong.
Are your WordPress hosting servers in the UK?
Yes. Sites are hosted on managed servers in the UK, which keeps the data under UK GDPR without relying on international transfer arrangements and keeps page loads quick for UK visitors.
Will you update our plugins without breaking the site?
Updates are applied on a schedule and the site is checked afterwards. Because backups are taken daily and restores are tested, an update that does cause a problem can be rolled back quickly rather than becoming a lost week.
Can you host a WordPress site you did not build?
Yes, and most of the WordPress sites we host started that way. We audit the site first, put any risks in writing, and migrate it out of hours with the old hosting kept live until the new copy has been checked.
Do we still need a care plan with WordPress hosting?
Hosting keeps the site running and backed up. A website care plan adds the routine updates and an allowance of small content changes, so if you would rather not log in to WordPress yourself, the two together cover it.
