On-page SEO

On-page SEO, fixed in the site rather than written up in a report

We provide on-page SEO for small business websites. That covers the technical health of the site, page speed, titles and headings, internal links, structured data and the content on each page. Because we are developers, the changes get made in the site itself. You get pages that search engines can read properly and customers want to read.

  • Changes made, not just reported
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals
  • Content written for real searches

What on-page SEO covers

On-page SEO is everything on your own website that affects how it ranks. It splits into two halves. The technical half is whether search engines can find, load and understand each page at all: crawling, indexing, speed, mobile layout, redirects and structured data. The content half is whether each page clearly answers the search it is meant to rank for, in words a customer would use.

Both halves are under your control, which is why on-page work is usually where SEO should start. Links and reviews from elsewhere matter, but they cannot rescue a page Google cannot read or a page that never says what you actually do.

Most agencies treat the technical half as an audit: a long report of problems handed to whoever built the site. We build websites for a living, so we fix them. That is usually the difference between a problem being solved this month and still sitting in a spreadsheet next year.

On-page work is one part of our wider SEO services in Nottingham.

Included in on-page SEO work

  • A crawl of the whole site for broken links, redirect chains, duplicate pages and pages blocked from indexing
  • Google Search Console checked for coverage errors and pages Google has chosen to ignore
  • Page speed and Core Web Vitals improved in the code: images, scripts, fonts and caching
  • Mobile layout checked on real devices, because Google ranks the mobile version of your site
  • Page titles and meta descriptions written for each important page, within the lengths Google displays
  • One clear heading structure per page, with the main search term where a reader would expect it
  • Internal links that connect related pages with descriptive anchor text
  • Structured data for your business, services, reviews and FAQs
  • Content rewritten or added where a page is too thin to rank for what it should

Technical SEO: the problems nobody sees

The most damaging SEO problems are usually invisible to the business owner. A setting left over from development that tells Google not to index the site. Hundreds of near-identical pages created by a plugin. Old URLs that return errors because nobody set up redirects during the last redesign. A home page that takes six seconds to load on a phone.

None of these show up when you look at the site in a browser, and all of them hold rankings back. Finding them takes a proper crawl and a look at what Google itself reports. Fixing them takes somebody who can change the code.

  • Indexing and crawl problems found and fixed
  • Redirects mapped one hop, with no chains
  • Speed measured on real phones, not just a desktop test
  • Structured data validated against Google’s own tools

Every page that should rank needs a job: one main search it answers, and the related questions someone making that search is likely to have. A page called Services that lists eight things in a sentence each will rank for none of them. A page per service, explaining what it is, what is included, what it costs and who it suits, has a real chance.

We work out which searches are worth targeting from Search Console data and keyword research, map each one to a single page so your own pages are not competing with each other, and then write or rework the content. Copy is written for the customer first. A page that reads well, answers the question and makes the next step obvious tends to rank better and convert better at the same time.

What is the difference between on-page and off-page SEO?

On-page SEO is everything on your own website: the technical setup, speed, titles, headings, structured data and content. Off-page SEO is what happens elsewhere: links from other sites, reviews, directory listings and your Google Business Profile. On-page usually comes first, because off-page signals cannot help a page search engines struggle to read.

Is technical SEO part of on-page SEO?

Yes, we treat it as the technical half of on-page work. It covers crawling, indexing, speed, mobile layout, redirects and structured data. Some agencies sell it separately, but in practice it is hard to improve content without fixing the technical problems around it.

Can you do on-page SEO on a site somebody else built?

Usually, yes. We work on WordPress and most common platforms. If a site is built in a way that makes the fixes impractical or expensive, we will tell you that in the free review, along with what a rebuild would cost by comparison.

Will you write the content or do I need to?

We can write it, rework what you have, or edit what you write. Most owners know their trade far better than any copywriter, so the best pages usually come from a short conversation with you that we then turn into copy.

How soon will on-page changes make a difference?

Technical fixes often show within a few weeks of Google recrawling the site. New or rewritten content usually takes longer to settle, typically a few months for competitive searches. We track it in Search Console and report what moved.
